Creating a society that will promote the rights, the survival, protection and development of the children with various disabilities is the goal for our organization.
To represent and support the interests of children with disabilities at all levels of social, economic, political and cultural activities.
To mobilize parents of children with disabilities towards the upliftment of their living conditions.
To lobby the government and the private sector on the aspirations of children with disabilities.
To create awareness on the plight of children with disabilities through provision of information on the development, protection and survival of children.To facilitate provision of conducive learning environment for children with disabilities.
Parents for Disabled Children Association of Malawi (PODCAM) is a Non - Profit making membership organization that was established in 1998. It has over 16,000 members who volunteer to work for the organization. Currently, PODCAM is operating in 23 out of 28 districts in Malawi. On 10th July 2001 it registered under the Malawi Government’s Trustees Incorporation Act of 1962 and its registration number is TR/INC 1306. On 5th January 2016, under the new law and policy governing NGOs in Malawi, it also got registered with the Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) Board under the NGO Act of 2015.
PODCAM is also an affiliate of Federation of Disability Organization in Malawi (FEDOMA), which is the member of Council for Non – Governmental Organization in Malawi (CONGOMA). At regional level, PODCAM is a member of Inclusion Africa (IA) a regional body of Disabled Persons Organisation (DPO) which is a member of International Inclusion. PODCAM is non-political organization, and it does not operate on any political affiliation basis. Its members have different political ideologies but work together under it.
As defined in its 2015-2016 strategic plan, PODCAM exists to promote equity and equality within the law, so that all human beings enjoy their human rights without looking at their status. To archive this, it represent, support and advocate for the interest of persons with disabilities at all levels of social, economic, political and cultural activities; it mobilizes people with disabilities towards the uplifting of their living conditions ; it lobby the Government , Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and private sector on the aspirations of people with disabilities; it create awareness on the plight of persons with disabilities and provide information on the development, protection and survival.
